Our
Mission

We want to build an infrastructure that enables countries — starting with the UK — to achieve their Computer Science education mandates for ages 918.

A Recognised Problem without a Unified Solution

Most countries have a 2030 vision—and nearly all include Computer Science literacy as a key goal. But do they actually have solutions to achieve it?

The UK’s 2030 vision aims to drive a “significant uptake” in Computer Science education. Yet currently, only 3.7% of students take Computer Science as a GCSE subject and the likelihood of a state or private school offering Computer Science at A Level is less than 15%.

Computer Science Education Trends in the UK

Growth in Computer Science as a non-core GCSE subject remains slow, with overall volume still low—despite year-on-year increases in enrolment. In fact:

3.7%

of students take GCSE Computer Science, as a proportion of non-core subjects

20%

as many A Level Computer Science students as there are in Mathematics

Only

As 2030 approaches, the UK continues to fall behind on the STEM education index compared to peer nations. This has placed increasing pressure on the government to build a Computer Science-literate workforce to meet the demands of the future.

Computer Class

46%

of secondary school computing teachers hold a post-A Level qualification in computing; and

Only

5+

years in a row have Computer Science teachers been in the “skilled worker” visa job shortage occupation list

The UK is not on track
to meet its 2030 STEM vision

and one of the biggest barriers is the lack of qualified teachers for GCSE and A Level Computer Science.

But there’s still time to change that.
